The short answer: £950–£1,400 fully installed for a quality 7kW smart charger in Leicester, with the Zappi V2 from £950. The longer answer — what moves the price, who still gets a grant in 2026, and why solar owners should pick their charger differently — is below.
What moves an EV charger quote
Three things: the cable run between your consumer unit and the parking spot (the big one), the state of the consumer unit itself, and the charger you choose. A straightforward install with a short run sits at the bottom of the £950–£1,400 band; long runs and consumer-unit work push it up — both are itemised in the quote before any work starts. Full detail on our EV charger installation page.
Who still gets a grant in 2026
Since 1 April 2026 every OZEV chargepoint grant is worth up to £500 per socket: flat owners and renters with off-street parking, residential landlords (up to 200 sockets), and businesses through the Workplace Charging Scheme (up to 40 sockets). Homeowners in houses no longer qualify — the domestic homeowner scheme ended in 2022. The eligibility rules are in our EV charger grants guide; business installs have their own page: commercial EV charging.
Solar owners: pick the charger differently
If you have panels — or plan them — the charger choice changes. A solar-diversion charger like the Zappi V2 watches your generation and sends surplus into the car before it exports; on a sunny afternoon the car charges free. Tariff-smart chargers like the Hypervolt Home 3 shine on time-of-use tariffs, filling the battery-and-car combo in the cheap overnight window. Our Octopus Flux guide covers that arithmetic.
Getting a fixed number
Photos of your consumer unit and parking spot are usually enough for a fixed, itemised quote — charger, cabling and any consumer-unit work priced separately, grant value shown where you qualify. Start on the EV chargers page or, for Leicester-specific detail, EV charger installation Leicester.
